REMINISCENSES

Celebration Sunday on March 7, 2004

The occasion of Mary's recital on February 2, 2006 brought up memories of Celebration Sunday in 2004 and Simon's presence among the children who marched on stage at Libby Gardner Hall, singing: "I am a Unitarian!" That year, all five UU congregations in Utah joined forces for a special service. The children each received a hand-batiked T-shirt with a Utah Unitarian symbol. Those T-shirts were lovingly designed and made by Liz Martin, who can be seen in the red T-shirt in the close-up photo with Simon. Simon is in the blue clump at center, and Miriam is stage right in plum.

It was a delight for me to have Rebecca Heal (who sat next to me at Libby Gardner) and Cynthia of the Desert tell me how they remembered Simon's beaming face that morning as he gazed down from the balcony and soaked up the excitement of the performance. Linda Britt was visiting with us that weekend and joined the audience. I think my mom was here, too. It's a very happy memory.
