MEMORIES IN AUDIO AND VIDEO

November 6, 1999 "Autumn Homage"

Posted November 2, 2005

In this clip, Simon is at play in the carefully raked leaves on the curb lawn at 260 Oak Street in Oberlin. He is almost two and a half years old. Although his little sister, Miriam, does not appear in the clip, Simon is already the big brother of a 6-week old baby.

You catch a glimpse in the video of Simon's two grandmothers: Grann and Oma. In the second part of the clip, you see more of Oma, who was visiting from Germany that fall to meet her new granddaughter. She and Simon have some good fun burying his legs in the leaves.

I love the way this clip shows the intense delight Simon took in the simplest of things--alert to the sounds, sensations, and humor of the situation. He also seems well aware of his "audience" and seems to enjoy sharing his fun with the people around him.

Autumn Homage (6.9 MB Quicktime movie, 2 minutes)
You may want to turn up the volume on your speakers to hear the audio in the clip.
