Simon started his very first chemo on December 28, 2001. By New Year's Eve, he was done receiving most of it, but he was still hanging out in the hospital for observation. This clip shows a visit from Miriam, Grann, and Grandad. Mary or Markus would stay overnight with Simon, and the rest of the folks would go home for the night.Simon is admiring a new book of photos sent by his friend Andre and Andre's mom, Lindsay. Oh, those two used to have so much fun and be so silly! At one point, Miriam says, "Emma, too!" Emma lived next door to Andre and often played with the boys and Miriam. At the end of the clip, Simon sensibly says he'd like to go to bed. Grann says Miriam needs to go to bed, too. But one look at the footage shows you that it's the grown-ups who really need some rest. You can't see Mary behind the camera, but she must have looked just as shell-shocked as the others. Simon's diagnosis had been finalized on December 26. It was a rough time. We always loved watching Simon and Miriam enjoy each other's company on visits.
