An in-depth understanding of meteorology is an important component in the study of a number of applied research questions associated with a the fields of agriculture, aviation, energy production, climate change and traditional weather forecasting. For students majoring in meteorology, employment opportunities range from private consulting companies, state agencies and the federal government. A significant number of students obtain a degree in meteorology as the groundwork for graduate studies in severe weather, environmental quality and climate change.
