Embodied schemata or schemata. The term embodied schemata [was] introduced by Johnson (1987). Schemata are interdependent, active, continuous and emergent elements of cognition. No embodied schema can be described independently of other schemata since we can only give meaning to a schema through metaphorical projection from interdependent schemata onto the embodied schema. Embodied schemata are knowledge structures but are also active processes in the construction of knowledge, giving meaning to new experiences as well as structuring cognition in a meaningful way. Consequently, a schema is a continuously active organizer of knowledge structures.
