UM / ITD Total Quality

Welcome to the Information Technology Division's (ITD) Hyper-Tour of Total Quality tools and principles. We hope this information will help you understand how we are applying them to benefit faculty, students and staff at the University of Michigan, and to get started on bringing Total Quality to your workplace.

Our program began in January, 1991 and has since become part of the University-wide quality effort, called M-Quality, which was formally adoped in the Spring of 1992. The Quality Triangle below illustrates how the pieces needed for Total Quality depend on each other.

Our implementation of Total Quality has focused on three areas:

Planning for Excellence
Improvement and Innovation Teams
Quality in Daily Work Life

The underpinning of our total quality program are the principles of Total Quality and Managing Diversity.

Manage By Fact
Customer Satisfaction
Respect for People and Ideas
Continuous Improvement
Innovation
