Juesheng (Bell) Templee
Although it seems like modern technology of China towers
over the old and traditional aspects of Chinese culture, this
sign for Olympus Digital Equipment cannot compare with the
technological treasures located at the Juesheng (Bell) Temple,
shown here.
Built in the 1730s, this temple houses the "big bell," a 46 ton
cast bronze bell that displays over 250,000 characters on its
surface. In ancient times, the striking of the bell could be
heard from a distance of over 70 km. The temple now houses an
impressive collection of hundreds of cast bronze bells dating
back to the beginning of Chinese history.
