Wk 6 - Rethinking S/T Agenda
in the 1960s

In the early 1960s, a number of changes took place that brought into question the Cold War plan for scientific and technological development. Congress addressed some of these concerns in hearings held in November 1963, a few weeks before the assassination of President Kennedy (November 22, 1963).

In his news report on the hearings in a News and Comment article in Science, science writer Daniel Greenberg, summarizes some of the testimony given to Congress. Read Greenberg's piece and come to section prepared to discuss a) the problems and b) the solutions presented to preserve the future growth of science and technology in the US.

Time will also be spent this week discussion and setting up teams for the group research project. If you have not looked at the description of the project, do so before coming to section.
