Wk 2 - Changing views of Science and Technology Policy

We begin the course where we will end--with the present. Scientific and technological development are influenced by everyday changes in society. Over the last three year, there have been two major changes that are influencing scientific and technological development--the election of a new President and a major act of terrorism in the US. What impact are these changes having on science and technology.

Two readings are linked:
Remarks by the President at the 21st Century High Tech Forum (June 13, 2002)

Statement of The Honorable John H. Marburger, Director Office of Science and Technology Policy Before the Committee on Science U.S.  House of Representatives (June 27, 2002)

What do these documents tell you about current attitudes toward science and technology in the US? Come to class prepared to talk what you think are the attitudes of the current administration toward the role of science and technology in society.
