Welcome
to the Michigan Gliding and Soaring!
Michigan Gliding and Soaring (MGS) is a soaring club affiliated
with the University of Michigan
open to students, faculty, and staff of the University, and their
families. It is registered with the Michigan Student Assembly.
Those who wish to fly on a regular basis may become students and
study to become licensed glider pilots. Pilots and instructors
with powered ratings can add a glider rating in a short period
of time, which also satisfies the biannual flight review or certified
flight instructor renewal requirements. During the winter months,
MGS holds ground school study group meetings approximately every
two weeks to help members prepare for their knowledge tests.
Michigan
Gliding and Soaring is affiliated with the Kitty
Hawk Soaring Club (KSC) in Manchetser, Michigan. We use Kitty
Hawk aircraft and equipment until such time as the club has enough
funds to purchase its own. KSC currently owns a Schweitzer 2-33
and a Schweitzer 1-26. Plans are under way to purchase more gliders.
