The folloeing elementary reaction is carried out isothermally at constant volume.

The starting charge to the reactor is ( CA0 + CB0) with CB0 having the value of the equilibrium concentration (CB0)eq for the initial charge (CA0 + CB0) after infinite time (CA0 = 0). Thus, B starts and ends at the same concentration.

  1. What is the value of CB0 in terms of reaction rate constants and CA0 in order for the concentration of B to remain the same at the beginning and end of the reaction.

  2. What is the condition relating the rate constants if CB were to remain a constant throughout the course of the reaction?
