    Assignment Submission

Homework assignments can be submitted in three ways. Please either:

Parts of some homework questions require essay answers, and are to be e-mailed directly to Prof. Fogler. These questions state to e-mail sfogler@umich.edu. Everything else is to be submitted to Conor Byrne.

Once you have submitted the homework for the unit, the solution will be either e-mailed, faxed, or mailed to you, depending on preference.

For the Interactive Computer Modules please e-mail the performance number and the name of the ICM to Conor Byrne as mentioned above. (Ex. My performance number for the Heat Effects ICM was #456789.)

    Grades

    Grading will be straight scale:

    90-100 A
    80-89 B
    70-79 C
    66-70 D
    below 66 E

The weighting of each component will be:

    Homework Problems and ICMs 20%
    OEP (Open Ended Project) 5%
    Comprehensive Problem 5%
    Exam I 20%
    Exam II 25%
    Final Exam 25%
    Total 100%

All homework problems and ICMs are to be worked individually. Homework problems will be graded on the basis of correct method and correct answer. 80% will be given for just the correct method without the correct answer. To take the exams, you must have a proctor (see ground rules for exam, below). More information on the open ended project will be posted soon.

    Ground Rules and Regulations

    Ground Rules for Homework

Homework is a major part of the course because the principles and concepts that are covered can only be learned by practicing their applications. Assignments are due on completion of the unit, and must follow a few guidelines.

    • Include your name and unit number on the first page.
    • Show all work and box your solutions.
    • Write the units for all symbols, calculations, and numerical answers.
    • Be neat and write legibly.
    • If you mail in hand written solutions, use 8.5 x 11 inch paper with straight edges. Paper torn from a spiral bound notebook is not acceptable.

    Ground Rules for Exams

The exams must be taken in the presence of a proctor. A proctor may be a high school or college teacher at your location or a supervisor at work. The proctor must sign your exam with his or her title, place of employment, address, and phone number and send it to:

    Professor H. Scott Fogler
    Department of Chemical Engineering
    3074 Dow Building
    University of Michigan
    2300 Hayward Street
    Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2136

  • It is very important to have the last 4 digits of the postal code to ensure the exam gets to the correct location. You should identify your exam proctor and e-mail the following information to Prof. Fogler as soon as possible: Proctor name, Title, Company, Phone Number (Home and Work), Address, Fax Number, and E-mail address.

If you have any other questions as to the rules and regulations of this class, or have concerns over any other policies or portions of the course please e-mail Prof. Fogler .
