Trouble with objectclass attribute

I can't seem to add records with an objectclass: attribute when I have
schemacheck turned on. When I turn schemacheck off, I can add person
records without objectclass attributes! Thsi makes searching little
tough on objectclass=person. Any guesses as to why this is happening ?
Do I need to have schemacheck=off when adding new records ?
