I'd like to announce the availability of xax500 1.0b1. xax500
(pronounced "zacks five hundred") is an X/Motif-based LDAP Directory
User Agent (DUA). It is based on the University of Michigan LDAP
libraries, and offers functionality similar to the University of
Michigan's maX.500 Macintosh DUA.

To get xax500, ftp to terminator.rs.itd.umich.edu and get:

/x500/xax500/xax500/xax500-V1.0b1-source.tar.Z.

Assuming that our Motif license doesn't prohibit us from distributing
binary versions, I will place binaries for SunOS 4.1.3 and HP-UX 9.05
in /x500/xax500/xax500.

xax500 has a World Wide Web home page containing information and some
screen shots. See the URL:

http://www.umich.edu/~rsug/x500/xax500/xax500.html.

In order to build the source distribution of xax500, you will need
Motif 1.2.2 or later include files and libraries, and the LDAP 3.1
release. If you wish to utilize the Kerberos support, you will need
MIT Kerberos V4 libraries.

Bug reports to:

xax500.bugs@umich.edu.

To be placed on a mailing list where future updates will be announced,
send mail to:

xax500.announce-request@umich.edu.

To be added to the testers mailing list, send mail to:

xax500.testers-request@umich.edu.

Note that xax500 1.0b1 is a beta release. If you get and use xax500,
please provide feedback to us at the "bugs" address. Thanks!
