Currently, the best is Clear Lake, in the extreme NE corner of Indiana: from Indiana 120 east of Fremont, turn north on county road700E. After abut 1/4 mile, turn right on Lake Drive, which completely circles the lake. Crooked Lake often has many birds; from II-69, take the Crooked Lake/Lake James exit and turn north toward Lake James. After 1/4 to 1/2 mile, County road 200N intersects from the east; turn west at this intersection on a road marked by a sign for the Steuben County beach and campground. Follow this road a short distance until it turns left; on that curve is the parking area for 76 Park. Walking through the park to the lakeshore gives you a panoramic scope view of about 3/4 of the lake. Follow roads completely around the lake to check it completely. From the north side of Crooked Lake, follow Orland Road as it winds NW to Lake Gage, which again you can drive completely around. Gage has produced two Pacific Loons, Oldsquaw, and scoters on occasion , but has not been productive for the last two years (reason unknown). It is, however, worth a look.
