From: David.G.Shappirio@um.cc.umich.edu Date: Tue, 6 Dec 94 23:19:04 EST To: alb@umcc.umich.edu Subject: Route to Point Pelee Coming from Michigan or Ohio, proceed to the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. The SE terminus of I-96 is at the Bridge. I-75 has an exit close to the Bridge, and I-94 has an exit to southbound I-96. Cross the bridge, pass through Canadian Customs and Immigration, and proceed on the main route, headed SSE (Huron Church Rd.), also labelled Route 3. The latter will turn SE (left) and become Talbot Rd., still labelled Rte 3. Stay on Rte 3 for half an hour, going all the way to Leamington. Rte 3 enters Leamington from the W. In the center of town, turn right (S) on Rte 77 for several blocks, then left (E) on Rte 20. Watch on your right for the sign indicating a diagonal right turn SE to Point Pelee National Park. Follow this road to the park entrance. On paying the entry fee at the admission booth, you will get a Park booklet that among other things indicated points of interest. The park headquarters is about 5-10 minutes drive ahead, just S of the main parking lot. Tilden Woods, one major birding area, is reached by footpath just behind the Nature Centre. The people on duty there will indicate other birding areas as well.
