Good birding sites along the stretch of Hwy 2 east of Toledo In order out of Toledo as you're driving east, good birding stops are (1) Maumee Bay State Park, (2) Metzger Marsh Wildlife Area, (3) Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, and (4) Crane Creek State Park (Magee Marsh Wildlife Area). See the file cranecrk.txt (with directions to Crane Creek State Park) for more information. CCSP is about 22 miles east of Toledo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 1997 13:57:28 -0400 From: Betsy Perry Reply-to: meperry@cms.cc.wayne.edu Organization: Wayne State University To: "Bruce M. There is often a Western Meadowlark (*always* Eastern Meadowlarks), sometimes (if you've been very, very good and the Birding Gods are pleased and you're there at just the right moment) Short-eared Owls, usually Pheasant and stuff. There should be a Harrier or two in that scrubby stuff between the Nature Center and the campground. Also if you take the road north from 2 that goes into the campground end of the park (the name of which I would tell you if I could remember it), you can get some nice field and fence row stuff. You should find Horned Larks, for one thing. There's a lot of good cruising along there, but it's been a while and I just don't have all the street names and stuff at my fingers' ends.
