From: Susan.Falcone@um.cc.umich.edu Date: Fri, 17 Mar 95 12:48:14 EST To: birders@umich.edu Subject: Kellogg Bird Sanctuary This is a great place to go during spring migration time--a good selection of returning migrants mingle with the tame residents, mainly waterfowl. There are also many birds of prey that can't be rehabilitated, and are sectioned off in large flights. I do a good deal of preliminary sketching for paintings there. Directions, for any interested: Kellogg Bird Sanctuary/Battle Creek/616-671-2510 --Take 94 west to Battle Creek --Take the Heller Rd Exit (exit 95, to the airport), and turn right (north) on Hellmer Rd --go to the 2nd traffic light (M96 alias Dickman) --turn left (west) onto Dickman and go approx 8 miles (past the Ft Custer area) to the village of Augusta --turn right onto Webster Rd (by the church & Sunoco station) --turn left on M89 & go up the hill --turn right on 40th, go 1-3/4 mile to a 4-way stop --turn left on C Road to the Sanctuary It's open daily, I believe, except Christmas, though I don't know the hours offhand.
