IRWIN PRAIRIE PRESERVE, OHIO Irwin Prairie Preserve is located in Lucas County about 10 miles west of Toledo. (It is about nine miles northeast of Oak Openings Metropark.) From I-475/U.S. Route 23, follow U.S. Route 20 west approximately 3 miles to Centennial Road; south about 1 mile to Bancroft Street and turn west. Drive 2+ miles. The entrance to Irwin Prairie Preserve is just past Irwin Road and on the south side of Bancroft Street. The sign marking the entrance is parallel to the road so it's easy to miss. There's a parking lot but no restrooms as of 7/6/2002. All trails are on boardwalk. Irwin Prairie Preserve on the map is the section of shaded area south of Bancroft Street. Secor Metropark is contiguous to Irwin Prairie Preserve; it is the shaded area north of Bancroft Street extending to Central Avenue. ----- A wet prairie dominated by sedges and rushes, habitat for migrating songbirds and waterfowl. Take U.S. 23 south to Toledo. Exit at Hwy 2 and go west. Turn right at Eber Road (a traffic light). Turn right on Old State Line Road and then left on Irwin Road. At Bancroft Street turn left (west). The entrance is a very short distance and on the south side of the road. Most of the habitat here is something between a marsh and prairie. It is wet, and there are miles of boardwalk.
