Date sent: Sun, 24 Nov 2002 13:34:01 -0800 (PST) From: Jacco Gelderloos Subject: [se-mi-birdlist] White-winged Scoter, Portage Lake (Washtenaw/Livingston), 11/24/02 To: se-mi-birdlist@umich.edu Birders, The adult male White-winged Scoter first reported by Raburn Howland this morning was still present at 12:30 p.m. on the north end of Portage Lake, which straddles the Washtenaw-Livingston County border. It was seen from Fox Pointe Dr in Livingston County. Directions to this site: * Take US-23 to North Territorial Rd and go west on North Territorial * Take Dexter-Pinckney Rd north to McGregor Rd * Follow McGregor Rd north past the Livingston County line and turn on the first road on the left, Fox Point Dr. * Take Fox Pointe Dr to the lakefront and scan the lake. For an alternate vantage point, try the Portage Lake boat launch on the west side of McGregor. The launch area is closed at this time, but there is some parking room on the entrance road in fornt of the gate. Good birding, Jacco G.
