Map 1 - Nichols Arboretum is in Ann Arbor, Michigan, 35 miles west of Detroit. Divided four-lane highways lead to Ann Arbor from all directions--I-94 from the east and west, M-14 from the east, and US-23 from the north and south.

Map 2

from the east - Since Nichols Arboretum is east of downtown and east of the University of Michigan's Central Campus, it is most easily reached by most out-of-town visitors from US-23 on the east side of Ann Arbor. US-23 runs north and south between I-94 and M-14. Exit from US-23 at Geddes Road (Exit 39) and go west toward Ann Arbor. (See Map 3 for continuation on Geddes Road.) M-17 on Map 2 is Washtenaw Avenue.

from the west - From west of Ann Arbor exit from I-94 at Jackson Avenue (Exit 172). Stay on Jackson Avenue going east toward downtown Ann Arbor. After 0.9 miles Jackson Avenue becomes Huron Street. Continue on Huron Street 0.9 miles to Main Street. Cross Main Street and continue east. (See Map 3 for continuation on Huron Street.)

Map 3

Note: Geddes is called Geddes Road east of Huron Parkway and Geddes Avenue west of Huron Parkway.

from the east - Coming from the east on Geddes Road, go 1.1 miles from US-23 to the traffic light at Huron Parkway. Turn left and go over the bridge that crosses the Huron River (at Gallup Park). (If you continue straight at the traffic light you will be on Fuller Road. This is a good way to go if you are headed for the entrance marked "1" on the map. See Entrance 1 directions below.) Immediately over the bridge turn left (just before the club house of a municipal golf course). Follow this under the bridge and in toward campus. You are on a westward continuation of Geddes Road (i.e., Geddes does a jog south over the bridge). You will reach Nichols Arboretum before you reach campus. (If you are going to the Riverview Drive entrance, be alert, as you will reach Riverview Drive shortly after exiting from Huron Parkway. See Entrance 4 directions below.)

from the west - Coming from the west on Huron Street (from I-94 and Jackson Road) stay on Huron Street 0.7 miles through town and into the campus area, where Huron Street swings to the right (south). A quarter of a mile further there is a traffic light at Geddes Avenue. Turn left there; you are nearly to Nichols Arboretum.

The numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 on Map 3 (and Map 4) show the Arb's entrances. (Also see parking.)

Map 4 - Nichols Arboretum and some of its primary trails are shown on Map 4. This map (and Map 3) shows the four entrances to the Arb. The entrances are marked 1-4 on the map.

Entrance 1 - University of Michigan Medical Center entrance (additional information)

from the east - Drive 1.5 miles east on Geddes Road after exiting from Huron Parkway (just over the bridge) (see Map 3 discussion). At the crest of a hill you will pass the Geddes Road entrance to the Arb. Continue for 0.4 miles to Observatory Street (traffic light) and turn right. Go 0.25 miles to E. Medical Center Drive (traffic light) and turn right. Go 0.5 miles and turn right onto a drive that goes downhill into a parking lot. Entrance 1 to the Arb is at the far end of the parking lot.

On Geddes if you continue straight west at the traffic light at Huron Parkway (high school at northwest corner), you will be on Fuller Road. This route will take you quickly to Entrance 1. Go to the sixth traffic light (the 2.1 miles will pass quickly; the lights will all be green, I promise), at E. Medical Center Drive, and turn left. Go 0.15 miles and turn left at a low white-on-blue sign for "Nichols Arboretum." Two-tenths of a mile down the hill, at the far end of a parking lot, you will find Entrance 1.

from the west - After turning onto Geddes Avenue at the traffic light (see Map 3 discussion) go one block to Observatory Street (traffic light) and turn left. Go 0.25 miles to E. Medical Center Drive (traffic light) and turn right. Go 0.5 miles and turn right onto a drive that goes downhill into a parking lot. Entrance 1 to the Arb is at the far end of the parking lot.

Entrance 2 - Geddes Avenue entrance, 1827 Geddes Avenue (additional information)

from the east - Drive 1.5 miles east on Geddes Avenue after exiting from Huron Parkway (just over the bridge) (see Map 3 discussion). At the crest of a hill you will come to the Geddes Avenue entrance to the Arb. Look for an iron gate (never locked) and a small white-on-blue sign for "Nichols Arboretum." You will want to park on a nearby residential street south (left) off Geddes a block or two before you get to the entrance.

from the west - A block after turning onto Geddes Avenue (see Map 3 discussion) you will come to Observatory Street (traffic light). Continue on Geddes for another 0.4 miles to the crest of a hill, where you will see the Geddes Avenue entrance on your left. Continue another block or two and find a place to park on a side street to the south (right).

Entrance 3 - Washington Heights entrance (additional information)

from the east - After turning (north) onto Observatory Street (see above discussion for Map 4, Entrance 1) turn right onto Washington Heights, just short of the traffic light you will see ahead at E. Medical Center Drive. At the bottom of the hill (0.25 miles) the street turns to the left. The Washington Heights entrance to the Nichols Arboretum is right at the turn. (Another 0.1 miles will bring you to E. Medical Center Drive. Turn right there to go to the University of Michigan Medical Center entrance, Entrance 1, another 0.3 miles ahead.)

    from the west - same

Entrance 4 (unofficial) - Riverview Drive entrance (additional information)

from the east - After exiting from Huron Parkway and continuing on Geddes Avenue going west (see Map 3 discussion), don't go past Riverview Drive if you want to use the unofficial entrance marked as "4" on the map. This entrance, which has easy parking, is at the end of Riverview Drive. Turn onto Riverview from Geddes 0.5 miles after exiting from Huron Parkway just across the bridge. Watch carefully for Riverview (on your right) since it comes up quickly right after Geddes goes around a rightward bend. Drive two miles to the end of Riverview Drive, where you can park at a turnaround circle and walk into Dow Prairie. Riverview Drive makes several 90-degree turns in the first half mile. Just stay on what looks to be the main road.

from the west - After turning onto Geddes Avenue (see Map 3 discussion) continue one block to Observatory Street (traffic light). Go another 1.4 miles, uphill and then downhill, to Riverview Drive, which will be on your left and immediately before Geddes disappears at a sharp leftward bend. The unofficial Riverview Drive entrance to the Arb is two miles ahead at the end of Riverview Drive.
