No particular rules are used for deciding relative importance or whether a town should be listed at all. Size (population) is the primary factor in ordering the list of towns for any given county, but proximity to good birding areas is also a major factor. For Washtenaw County I have included nearly every burg and borough because a sizable portion of the readers of this web site live in Washtenaw County and the county is well birded by birders from all of southeast Michigan.
